The Miami Marlins made another splash in the free agent pool Sunday night as they agreed to a deal with shortstop Jose Reyes.

Coming on the eve of the Winter Meetings, the deal is reported to be for six years and for $106 million and is still pending completion of Reyes' physical.

Miami made no secret that it was hot for Reyes, contacting the All-Star shortstop as soon as the window to negotiate opened.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Sunday that if the reported contract terms are correct, New York would not match the offer.

With the Marlins ready to move into a $515 million retractable-roof stadium, the team brought in Ozzie Guillen as manager and are looking to add more pieces.

Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols are still available free agents and Miami is looking to add a power bat. Pujols has already toured the new stadium.

With the signing of Reyes, Miami is expected to move Hanley Ramirez to third base. Ramirez, a three-time All-Star starter, has never played a position other than shortstop in his professional career.

Reyes joins All-Star closer Heath Bell as new acquisitions for Miami. Bell came on board for $27 million over three years.
