Cleveland, OH
The Cleveland Indians, looking to bolster their starting rotation after a second-half fade, acquired Derek Lowe in a trade with the Atlanta Braves Monday.
The Braves received minor league pitcher Chris Jones in exchange and will pick up $10 million of the $15 million owed to Lowe for 2012.
Atlanta was OK with letting go of Lowe after his horrendous September in which he "aided" the team's collapse with an 0-5 mark and 8.75 ERA.
He recorded double-digit wins the prior two seasons, however, and has been a strong starter in the past.
Tim Hudson and Brandon Beachy will return for the Braves and are expected to fill out the team's No. 1-to-4 starters along with Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson, the latter duo returning from injuries.
Kris Medlen, Mike Minor, Randall Delgado, and Julio Teheran will battle it out for the No. 5 spot in the rotation for Atlanta.
The Indians rotation is expected to consist of: Justin Masterson, Fausto Carmona, Ubaldo Jimenez, Josh Tomlin and Lowe.
