Houston, TX

MLB will likely added another Wild Card team from each league in the playoffs in the 2013 season following the reported move to the American League West by the Houston Astros.

On Wednesday, outgoing Astros owner Drayton McLane, Jr. confirmed that the club will be moving to the AL West in 2013, according to multiple reports.

It would translate to a 15-15 alignment for the two leagues.

If the move pushes through, all six divisions would then have five teams each.

According to the McLane, who purchased the team in 1993, the sale of the Astros to a group headed by Houston businessman Jim Crane had presumably sailed through the ownership committee and the executive council.

It awaits the approval of the Major League Baseball owners.

Crane, who reportedly agreed to purchase the Astros for about $680 million, will be receiving $70 million in exchange for the Astros move from the National League Central to the AL West.

That amount to be paid to Crane will be split between McLane and MLB.

The Astros were established in the NL as the Houston Colt .45s in 1962.
