Los Angeles, CA
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a busy day, agreeing to terms with outfielder Matt Kemp on an eight-year, $160 million deal for the richest pact in the club's history.
L.A. also inked free-agent second baseman Mark Ellis to a two-year, $8.75 million contract.
"It is unbelievable to be in this position for myself and my family," Kemp told mlb.com of the proposed contract earlier in the day.
"You dream about this. My dreams have definitely come true... (now) I want other big-time free agents to consider L.A. as a team that they want to be a part of. I want to win as many games as we can and get to the World Series," Kemp said. "It is a great city and a great organization to be a part of."
Kemp had a monster year in 2011, batting .324 (third in the NL) with 39 home runs and 126 RBI, leading the NL in homers, RBIs, runs scored (115) and total bases (353).
Ellis hit just .217 for the A's before being traded to the Rockies where he upped his batting average to .274. He is considered an above-average defender who will strengthen the Dodgers infield play.
