Less than two weeks after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles, veteran defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins has agreed to a three-year contract with the New York Giants.

The deal, reportedly worth $9 million, includes a $2 million signing bonus and $3 million in guaranteed money, a source told ESPN.com,

The Eagles cut the nine-year veteran Jenkins two weeks ago after two sub-par seasons in Philadelphia.

The 32-year-old Jenkins left the Green Bay Packers to join Philadelphia on a five-year, $25 million deal in 2011.

The Giants badly need a solid defensive lineman after finishing 31st in defense last season.

Without a solid defensive lineup, the Giants missed the playoffs last season after winning the Super Bowl the previous year.

Jenkins is expected to replace defensive tackle Chris Canty in the starting lineup together with Linval Joseph. Canty was released last month to create salary-cap space.

The Giants also have Shaun Rogers, Marvin Austin, Markus Kuhn and Bobby Skinner at defensive tackle.

Jenkins started all 32 games after signing with the Eagles and had 9.5 sacks in his two seasons for Philadelphia, including four last season.

Jenkins, who spent his first seven NFL seasons in Green Bay, has 38.5 sacks in 125 career games.

Last season, New York struggled to 25th in the league defensively, allowing an average of 129.1 rushing yards per game in a disappointing follow-up to their Super Bowl campaign.
