Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has suddenly drawn criticism after calling the NFL's plan to stage the next Super Bowl in the cold weather of New Jersey "retarded", multiple sources reported Tuesday.

After steering the Ravens to a stint in Super Bowl, Flacco stirred controversy with his one-word comment about the next NFL championship game to be held in a shivery playing environment at MetLife Stadium.

"Yeah, I think it's retarded. I probably shouldn't say that. I think it's stupid. If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one. Other than that I don't really like the idea. I don't think people would react very well to it, or be glad to play anybody in that kind of weather," said Flacco in a quote transcribed by the Denver Post.

The un-politically-correct remark was later scrapped from the official NFL site.

Several websites, including NBC sports, took aim at Flacco for his comments. Some fans are not also happy about the R-bomb word unleashed by Flacco, who grew up in the New Jersey area.

Nevertheless, Flacco still has the chance to downplay the outrage if he powers the Ravens to a NFL title over the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl XLVII this coming Sunday.

The debate was started when the Baltimore Ravens quarterback was asked his opinion about playing a Super Bowl in the cold weather of New York. Flacco used the choice word to describe his opinion.
