Super Bowl XLVI: Giants vs Patriots
New York, NY
If you are lucky enough, or rich enough, to snag some last minute tickets to Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis, getting there will also cost you a pretty penny (but if you are rich enough you don't have to worry about that).
A non stop flight from New York or Boston to Indianapolis this weekend costs between $1,349 to $1,800, according to the popular airline ticket website Kayak.
The internet site has a few cheaper alternatives, such as taking a flight to nearby Cincinnati or Chicago, and then renting a car to log the final 115 or 180 miles.
Giants fans could even do better by taking a taxi to the big games. According to NYC Taxiwiz, the estimated fare would be $1,436.
And, even if you do get their by plane or car, you still have to find a hotel room.
According to Travelocity.com., a scare room at the Budget Inn is bound to break your budget at $898.99 a night. The same room for the following weekend is available for $55 a night, in case you are in town to take in the Indiana Ice hockey team play the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Feb. 11 at the Pepsi Coliseum.
One reason for the giant prices is limited supply. Game weekend demand exceeds supply for most travel services in Indianapolis, including rooms, and landing and takeoff slots for private jets. And then, of course, there is the issue of a rental car and parking.
The Super Bowl is more than just a sporting event. It is a big business representation.
Many companies with deep pockets, and a great deal of influence, secured tickets, rooms, are travel to the venue way ahead of fans.
For those who are still game to head to the big game Stubhub.com listed about 3,000 seats still available with prices ranging from $2,100 for nosebleed seats, up to a staggering $516,484 for a luxury suite.
