Dolphins Acquire Wideout Anthony Armstrong Off Waivers

Miami, FL
The Miami Dolphins have picked up wide receiver Anthony Armstrong off waivers to strengthen their receiving corps.
Earlier, the Dolphins reportedly eyed trading veteran running back Steve Slaton for Armstrong but the Washington Redskins cut the latter recently.
The Dolphins later released Slaton to make room for Armstrong, who will join the team's receiving corps composed of Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Legedu Naanee, Marlon Moore and Rishard Matthews.
"Enjoyed my time here, been a pleasure. Much success to my boys," Slaton said on his Twitter account.
The 29-year-old Armstrong spent 2009 as a practice player for the Dolphins before he was released the next year because of a hamstring injury.
He was taken by the Redskins, where he caught 44 passes for 871 yards but saw his production fall off last year, with just seven catches.
Armstrong had 3 receptions for 76 yards during the preseason - including a 46-yarder in his finale - for the Redskins but was cut because the team was overloaded at wide receiver.
Aside from Armstrong, Miami claimed three additional players Saturday - former Panthers cornerback R.J. Stanford, ex-Texans safety Troy Nolan and linebacker Sammy Brown, formerly of the Rams.
Nolan, 25, has played in 30 games the past two years, starting six while Brown, a 6-2, 242-pounder, is an undrafted rookie out of Houston. Stanford, 24, played in 12 games last year, registering 13 tackles and an interception.
To make room for the new additions, the Dolphins, Tyrone Culver, the sixth-year safety who has spent the past three in Miami, and first-year linebackers Jonathan Freeny and Josh Kaddu.
