Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been fitted with protective skull cap that will give him extra protection against concussion if he returns to face the Dallas Cowboys.

Vick said he will wear the protective skull cap under his helmet to safeguard him from another concussion just in case he is cleared to play against the Cowboys.

At the urging of neurologist Dr. Dimi Barot, Vick agreed to be measured for the new protective device designed by Unequal Technology Corporation from its Concussion Reduction Technology.

When he returned from a concussion last year, Vick used a helmet retro-fitted by Unequal with similar padding.

Unequal, owned by CEO Rob Vito, also designed the protective Kevlar devices that allowed

Vick and Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to play with serious rib injuries in recent seasons.

Eagles coach Andy Reid announced that Vick is close to being medically cleared after missing two games with a concussion.

The quarterback is scheduled to be tested Wednesday to determine whether he can practice, Reid said.

If Vick is cleared, Reid must decide whether to start Vick or rookie Nick Foles against the Cowboys. The Eagles have lost seven straight games.

Vick has not played since suffering a concussion three weeks ago when he was hit by Dallas linebacker Ernie Sims.
