A tough, reliable running game allows an offense to command a game's pace. In the majority of contests, it can also control the game's result.

In 2013, NFL teams with a 100-yard rusher in a game posted a 60-33-2 record for a .642 winning percentage. That rated higher than clubs with a 100-yard receiver (98-82, .544) or a 300-yard passer (60-58, .508).

"Our run game is extremely important," says Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles about the offense and Pro Bowl running back Le Sean McCoy, who led the NFL in rushing yards in 2013.

The Eagles posted a 6-1 record when McCoy rushed for 100 yards in a game.

"He makes plays and he does a great job in pass protection," says Foles about McCoy. "The NFL's leading rusher -- that's a great accomplishment for him."

Over the past five years, teams have compiled a 399-175-2 record (.694) when a player has eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark.

By comparison, NFL teams with a 100-yard receiver have a .554 winning percentage (467-376-1), while offenses with a 300-yard passer have won 53.3 percent of games (301-264).
