The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with one of the NFL's best receivers in ex-New England Patriot Wes Welker.

"Excited to have Wes join the Broncos. His production and toughness will be a great asset," Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway Tweeted.

Welker, 31, caught 118 passes for 1,364 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. He was the top free agent receiver on the market this year as a 5-time Pro Bowler.

He became a free agent Tuesday.

Welker went to Texas Tech University and was signed as a rookie free agent by the San Diego Chargers in 2004.

The Chargers waived Welker a few months later and he was signed by the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots acquired Welker three years later in 2007 in exchange for a second-round and seventh round selection in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Welker earned five consecutive Pro Bowl honors following the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.

In addition to bringing Welker on board, Denver also agreed to terms on a two-year deal with defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, formerly of Jacksonville, a one-year contract with linebacker Stewart Bradley, who played with the Cardinals the past two seasons, and a one-year deal with cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

The Pats opted to sign Danny Amendola to a five-year, $31 million contract with $10 million in guaranteed money.

Amendola, 27, racked up 196 receptions for 1,726 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons with the St. Louis Rams but missed 20 games over the last two campaigns due to injuries.
