Orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed surgery to repair two of Robert Griffin III's knee ligaments early in the year, called the Washington Redskins quarterback a "superhuman" due to his fast recovery from the operation.

"I've been real mum on talking too much about RG III. He wants his recovery to be fairly private, but I can tell you he's way ahead of schedule. His recovery has been unbelievable so far," Andrews told ESPN.com.

"RG III is one those superhumans. First patient I ever had like that was Bo Jackson. And recently I, of course, had Adrian Peterson, who is also superhuman. They have an unbelievable ability to recover, where as a normal human being may not be able to recover," he added.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Dr. Andrews's assessment, telling NFL.com that Griffin is ahead of schedule in his recovery from reconstructive knee surgery.

However, Shanahan cautioned that the rehabilitation is a lengthy process usually filled with ups and downs.

Griffin's rehab partner, free-agent tight end Fred Davis, also echoed Dr. Andrews' statement, saying the quarterback looks "comfortable and normal" while doing every drill.

"You can barely even tell that he's hurt. He's doing every drill" Davis said. "He looks comfortable and normal to me. When he first got back, I was surprised, like, 'Did you just have surgery?'"

"He works hard. Whenever he says he's going to do something, he's going to do it," Davis added. "I believe that he'll be back sooner than people expect."

Griffin sustained a sprained LCL against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, but returned two games later. He then tore his LCL and ACL in a first-round playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
