Peyton Manning and the NFL Record Books

Denver Broncos quarterback PEYTON MANNING ranks among the NFL elite and continues to etch his name in NFL record books.

After missing the entire 2011 season due to injury, Manning quickly adjusted to his new teammates in Denver and was named the 2012 NFL Comeback Player of the Year by The Associated Press.

The four-time NFL MVP passed for 4,659 yards with an AFC-best 37 touchdowns and 105.8 passer rating as he led the Broncos to an AFC West title.

"I think he met the expectations," says Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback JOHN ELWAY. "He probably exceeded them. If you look at the numbers, what he did, he had a tremendous year. But I'm looking forward to this year, too. I think he's just going to continue to get better."

Broncos wide receiver ERIC DECKER (below, with Manning) certainly benefited from Manning's first year in Denver. Decker ranked second in the NFL and led the AFC with 13 touchdown receptions last season.

"It's humbling to play with one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game," says Decker. "It makes me want to be better as a wide receiver. Just watching him day to day with his preparation and the way he goes about his business is something that I try to learn from. He's a guy you dream about playing with."

Manning, who is entering his 16th NFL season, ranks third all-time in career passing yards (59,487) and second in completions (5,082) and touchdown passes (436). Manning needs 1,875 passing yards in 2013 to surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (61,361) for second place all-time.

Manning's success throughout his career has been attributed to his preparation, focus, dedication and passion for the game.

"He's like a coach on the field where he gets his team in the right place mostly every time by lining them up, running the no-huddle offense and being so competitive," says Marino.

NFL Network analyst and former quarterback KURT WARNER says a great deal of Manning's success can be attributed to his high level of football intelligence against complex NFL defenses.

"The greatest attribute of Peyton Manning is his ability to really understand what defenses are doing to him," says Warner. "He's able to react before the snap. That's what is unique about him. A lot of guys can react after the snap, but very few can have that understanding before the snap."
