The National Football League is considering all possible circumstances that could come out of nowhere when they stage Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium.

According to sources, the NFL is bracing up for the possibility of bad weather hitting the New York/New Jersey on game day, prompting organizer to play the NFL Championship game on Saturday or postpone the match for several days. However, scheduling also created a number of problems, at least businesswise.

"We have to look at all the angles: storm arriving day-of-game, storm arriving prior to game, storm arriving after game," a source told the Sports Business Journal.

Super Bowl XLVIII is scheduled to take place on Feb. 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, making it the first Super Bowl ever to be held in an open-air stadium in a cold-weather region.

"As we do for every Super Bowl, we have been planning for all possibilities and are creating various contingency plans to deal with each potential situation," an NFL spokesperson told ESPN on Tuesday, adding that the league would not comment on specifics so far in advance of the game.

Organizers in New York/New Jersey say that they would have no problem changing the day of next year's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium if they could avoid big problems in the weather. This means the Super Bowl could end up being on a Saturday, Monday or even Tuesday.
