New Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell's first move was to fire Coach Mike Mularkey.

While admitting that Mularkey is a good coach, Caldwell said he wants to explore every avenue possible to turn the team around.

In his single season at Jacksonville, Mularkey coached a depleted roster to a 2-14 record, the worst in franchise history.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan had talked to Mularkey about potential improvements in 2013 but never publicly stated he would be back and clearly left the decision up to his new GM.

"Mike gave the Jaguars everything he had on and off the field, and his efforts as our head coach will always be appreciated," said Khan.

Mularkey was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1996-2003 before he became head coach of the Bufallo Bills for two seasons.

He later became the Miami Dolphins' offensive coordinator the following season but was bumped down as tight ends coach. He then joined the Atlanta Falcons as offensive coordinator for four seasons before being hired by the Jaguars.

There's been heavy speculation that Caldwell will tab currents San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator Greg Roman as the Jaguars' next coach.
