The New York Jets seem to have a knack for associating themselves with controversial or maligned quarterbacks lately.
Their most recent NFL draft pick, former West Virginia star Geno Smith is no different as he's defending himself from some reports that he boasts a bad attitude.
"I don't worry about what people say -- my skin is pretty thick," the much-maligned Smith said in an interview with USA Today Sports. "I've never been in trouble."
But he's already drawn controversy for firing his agents after dropping out of the top-10 as a potential pick and slipping to the Jets at No. 39 overall.
Smith also reportedly seemed distracted while meeting with teams, texting and tweeting friends according to Yahoo.
"That's not true," he said. "I got strong remarks from all the teams I visited with. … I couldn't care less what's coming out in the media, because I know what's true."
Smith will be competing with four other Jets for the team's starting job behind center. The recently released Tim Tebow won't be a competitor, though Mark Sanchez and David Garrard will be.
