NFL 2013 Week 9: NFC Players of the Week

Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles, Bears defensive end Shea McClellin and Seahawks punt returner Golden Tate are the NFC Players of the Week for games played the ninth week of the 2013 season

Offense: QB Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles

Foles tied the NFL single-game record with seven touchdown passes in the Eagles' 49-20 win at Oakland. He completed 22 of 28 passes (78.6 percent) for 406 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions for a 158.3 passer rating, the highest attainable mark.

He is the first player in NFL history to post a 158.3 passer rating and throw seven touchdowns in the same game.

Foles is one of only seven players in NFL history to throw seven touchdown passes in a game. He joins Pro Football Hall of Famer Y.A. TITTLE (October 28, 1962) and PEYTON MANNING (September 5, 2013) as the only players to accomplish the feat without throwing an interception.

Foles is the only player in NFL history to throw seven touchdowns in the first three quarters of a game.

This season, Foles has 13 touchdown passes and no interceptions. Only four players have started a season with more TD passes before throwing an interception: Denver's Manning (20 in 2013), Cleveland's MILT PLUM (16 in 1960), Dallas' DON MEREDITH (14 in 1966) and Minnesota's RANDALL CUNNINGHAM (14 in 1998).

In his second season from Arizona, this is Foles' second career Player of the Week Award and second this season (Week 6).

He is the third Eagles quarterback to be named Player of the Week multiple times in the same season joining DONOVAN MC NABB (2000) and MICHAEL VICK (2010).

Defense: DE Shea McClellin, Chicago Bears

McClellin had five tackles and three sacks in the Bears' 27-20 win at Green Bay on Monday night.

He is the first Bear to have at least three sacks against the Packers in Green Bay. McClellin and DAN HAMPTON (3.5 sacks, November 23, 1986) are the only players in franchise history to record at least three sacks in a game versus the Packers.

Two of McClellin's sacks came on third down and his third sack sealed Chicago's victory on the final play of the game.

Chicago's defense limited Green Bay to 312 total net yards, including 113 net passing yards.

In his second year from Boise State, this is McClellin's first career Player of the Week Award.

McClellin is the eighth defensive end in franchise history to be named Defensive Player of the Week and the first since JULIUS PEPPERS (Week 16, 2012).

Special Teams: PR Golden Tate, Seattle Seahawks

Tate returned three punts for 92 yards, including a long of 71 yards, and averaged 30.7 yards per return in the Seahawks' 27-24 overtime win over Tampa Bay. He added three catches for 29 yards.

On Tate's three punt returns, the Seahawks' average starting field position was Seattle's 49-yard line (Tampa Bay 25, Seattle 33, Seattle 40).

Tate's 71-yard return in the third quarter set the Seahawks up at the Tampa Bay 25-yard line and led to a Seattle field goal to cut the Buccaneers' lead to seven points. He returned a punt in overtime to the Seattle 40-yard line and that drive resulted in the game-winning field goal.

Tate is the only player in the NFL this season with 300+ receiving yards (468) and 300+ punt-return yards (329).

In his fourth season from Notre Dame, this is Tate's first career Player of the Week Award.

He is the fifth Seahawks returner to be named Special Teams Player of the Week and the first since LEON WASHINGTON (Week 12, 2012).
