Baltimore, MD
Inspired by the birth of his second son, Joe Flacco completed an insurance touchdown pass in the fourth to lead the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens to a 14-6 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.
Before the game, Flacco was informed by wife Dana that she has given birth to their second son.
A consummate professional, Flacco came to M&T Bank Stadium despite knowing that there was a chance that his wife could go into labor
Flacco was going through pregame warm-ups when the team pulled him off the field and put him on the phone with his wife, who gave birth at 11:50 a.m.
Then Flacco buckled down to work, completing 22 of 33 passes for 211 yards and his five-yard touchdown pass to Marlon Brown sealed the Ravens' (1-1) first win of the season.
Bernard Pierce rushed 19 times for 57 yards and a touchdown in the third period while Torrey Smith caught seven passes for 85 yards for the Ravens.
Cleveland quarterback Brandon Weeden hit 21 of 33 passes for 227 yards but was sacked five times before he left the game due to a thumb injury.
Trent Richardson ran for 58 yards on 18 carries, Jordan Cameron tallied 95 yards on five receptions while Billy Cundiff made two first-half field goals for the Browns, who slipped to 0-2.
Cundiff put the Browns on the board with a 21-yard field goal in the first before making it a 6-0 game with a 51-yard boot in the second.
However, Pierce capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive with short scoring run to put the Ravens ahead in the third period.
In the fourth, Flacco put the finishing touches, capping an eight-play, 42-yard drive with a five-yard scoring pass to Brown.
