Alex Smith Tosses Two TD Passes to Lift Chiefs over Cowboys

Kansas City, MO

Alex Smith threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns to lift the Kansas City Chief to a 17-16 win over the Dallas Cowboy Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Smith scrambled 17 yards on third-and-15 before tossing a short TD to Jamal Charles for an early Chiefs lead.

The Cowboys answered with Dez Bryant's 53-yard catch that set up Bailey's first field goal. Later he was found by Tony Romo for a short TD catch to give Dallas a 10-7 lead.

Bailey's second field goal widened the Cowboys lead to 13-7 in the third. But Smith hit Bowe on a 12-yard slant to grab back the Chiefs' lead at 14-13 later in the quarter.

The Chiefs expanded their lead to 17-13 with Dwayne Bowe's touchdown catch and Ryan Succop's field goal.

The Cowboys moved in during the closing minutes. But Tony Romo threw three straight incompletions that had Dan Bailey settling for a 53-yard field goal.

After the Chiefs regained possession with 3:55 left, Charles ground out a couple first downs. Morris Claiborne was penalized for pass interference on third-and-10 giving the Chiefs another set of downs.

Romo finished 30 of 42 for 298 yards while playing with bruised ribs. Bryant had nine catches for 141 yards and the Cowboys' only touchdown.
