Ryan Tannehill completed 24 of 38 attempts for 272 yards and a touchdown to lead the Miami Dolphins to a 23-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Running back Daniel Thomas rushed for just 14 yards on eight carries with a touchdown, wideout Brian Hartline caught nine passes for 114 yards and a score while rookie kicker Caleb Sturgis buried three field goals for the Dolphins (1-0).
Brandon Weeden struggled for the Browns, completing just 26 of 53 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins defense kept Weeden on his toes, picking him thrice and sacking him six times.
Trent Richardson outran the entire Dolphins rushing corps, rushing for 47 yards on 13 carries while Miami had 20 ground yards on 23 carries. Jordan Cameron recorded 108 yards on nine receptions with a touchdown for the Browns.
Sturgis put the Dolphins ahead, 6-0, after making his first two NFL field goals from 45 yards in the first period and from 49 yards in the second.
Weeden then engineered an 11-play, 56-yard drive that he capped with a seven-yard scoring strike to Cameron to put the Browns ahead, 7-6, at the break.
In the third, the Dolphins regained the lead, 13-7, after Tannehill found Hartline for a 34-yard touchdown pass after a five-play, 51-yard drive.
However, the Browns stayed close heading into the fourth period after Cundiff made a 39-yard field goal.
The Dolphins pulled away for good in the fourth when Thomas scored on a one-yard touchdown run after a 10-play, 85-yard drive while Sturgis capped scoring with a 36-yard field goal.
