There appears to be a truce after Rex Ryan called his counterpart in San Diego to clarify his previous remarks, but the Chargers Norv Turner could not resist getting in a dig after seeing the outspoken Jets head coach's comments in their latest war of words.

On Wednesday's conference call with San Diego media, Ryan inadvertently took a shot at Turner after being asked about the Chargers' coaching job.

Ryan, who became well-known throughout the league for his outspoken manner and boisterous attitude, interviewed for the Chargers' head coaching position in 2007. That position eventually went to Turner.

When asked how he might have fared if he had been hired instead of Turner, Ryan offered one of his regular boasts.

"Well, I think I would have had a couple rings," the 48-year-old Ryan said via ESPN.com.

"I'm telling you," he said with a laugh, "those teams were loaded."

According to a Jets spokesman, Ryan then called Turner to clarify his remarks after evidently realizing that his words could be taken as a slight to the San Diego head coach.

Meanwhile, Turner confirmed that the Jets coach had called, but did not reveal details of their conversation.

"I hadn't seen his quote and I was a little bit surprised by the call," Turner said via ESPN.com Wednesday. "And then after I saw the quote, I didn't have a chance to ask him this, but I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he's guaranteed the last couple of years."

Ryan, who attained his first head coaching job in the NFL with the Jets in 2009, has predicted a Super Bowl for the Jets after assuming the post, but the club has failed to win a title.

He has led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances in the '09 and '10 seasons, but lost on both occasions.

The Jets are slated to face San Diego in Week 7.
