John Beck is going to get his shot to quarterback the Washington Redskins.

Beck was named the new starting quarterback for the Redskins Wednesday.

"I'm definitely excited," Beck said.

Coach Mike Shanahan informed his team that Beck will get the start for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Beck is getting the job after Rex Grossman threw four interceptions and was benched after three quarters during Sunday's 20-13 loss to Philadelphia.

Grossman has 11 turnovers this season in five games. He as thrown six touchdown passes but they have been offset by nine interceptions and a pair of fumbles.

Grossman's QB rating of 66.5 is 32nd of 33 quarterbacks in the league.

Beck looked to be the starter for much of the preseason but was beaten out for the job by Grossman. Sunday will be Beck's first start since he was a rookie with Miami in 2007.

The QB carousel in Washington is nothing new, but the Redskins hope Beck comes in and gives them a spark and holds onto the job. Beck will be the 21st quarterback to start a game for Redskins in the last 19 seasons.
