NFC Players of the Week

Quarterback DREW BREES of the New Orleans Saints, linebacker LANCE BRIGGS of the Chicago Bears and kicker MASON CROSBY of the Green Bay Packers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the seventh week of the 2011 season (October 23-24).

OFFENSE: QB DREW BREES, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Brees completed 31 of 35 passes (88.6 percent) for 325 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for a 144.9 passer rating in the Saints' 62-7 win over Indianapolis.

It marked the 32nd game in NFL history in which a player passed for at least 300 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Brees' completion percentage was the highest in any of those 32 contests.

In his career, Brees has four games with five touchdown passes and no interceptions, tying TOM BRADY and PEYTON MANNING for the most in NFL history.

Brees has thrown a touchdown pass in 34 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in NFL history, and has at least 20 completions in 27 games in a row, the longest streak all-time.

The Saints' 62 points are the most scored by one team in a regular-season game since November 17, 1985 (New York Jets 62, Tampa Bay 28). New Orleans became only the third team in NFL history to score 60+ points with at least 300 passing yards and 200 rushing yards (12/7/80, Chicago 61, Green Bay 7; 11/17/85, New York Jets 62, Tampa Bay 28).

In his 11th season from Purdue, this is Brees' 13th career Player of the Week Award and first since Week 12, 2009.

Since joining the Saints in 2006, Brees has won 11 Player of the Week Awards, the most in franchise history.

DEFENSE: LB LANCE BRIGGS, CHICAGO BEARS

Briggs had six tackles, a tackle for a loss, one interception and two passes defensed in the Bears 24-18 win over Tampa Bay in the NFL International Series game at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

In the third quarter, with the Bears leading 21-5, Briggs recorded his first interception of the season and 13th of his career. He has at least one interception in eight of his nine NFL seasons.

Chicago's defense held Tampa Bay to 280 total net yards, including just 30 rushing yards.

The Bears recorded four interceptions and had one sack.

In his ninth year from Arizona, this is Briggs' second career Player of the Week Award (Week 3, 2009).

He is the fourth linebacker in franchise history to be named Defensive Player of the Week multiple times, joining BRIAN URLACHER (five), Pro Football Hall of Famer MIKE SINGLETARY (two) and OTIS WILSON (two).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K MASON CROSBY, GREEN BAY PACKERS

Crosby converted all four field-goal attempts in the Packers 33-27 win at Minnesota.

He connected on field goals from 39, 45, 24 and 58 yards out. The 58-yard field goal was the longest in franchise history, breaking the previous mark of 56 yards he set twice before (Week 1, 2010 and Week 5, 2011).

His four field goals tied his single-game career-high, which he has set four other times, most recently in Week 5 of this season.

He has now converted 21 consecutive field-goal attempts, the longest streak in team history (CHRIS JACKE, 17, 1993).

Crosby also recorded four touchbacks on kickoffs in the game.

In his fifth season from Colorado, this is Crosby's fourth career Player of the Week Award and second this season (Week 5).

Crosby joins RYAN LONGWELL (five) as the only kickers in team history to be honored at least four times.

He is one of three players to be named NFC Player of the Week two times this season, joining teammate AARON RODGERS (Offense) and Chicago's DEVIN HESTER (Special Teams).

NFC Players of the Week

Running back ARIAN FOSTER of the Houston Texans, cornerback BRANDON FLOWERS of the Kansas City Chiefs and kicker JOSH SCOBEE of the Jacksonville Jaguars are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the seventh week of the 2011 season (October 23-24).

OFFENSE: RB ARIAN FOSTER, HOUSTON TEXANS

Foster rushed for 115 yards on 25 carries (4.6 average) with two rushing touchdowns and a career-high 119 receiving yards with one touchdown reception in a 41-7 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Became the first player to have 100 yards rushing and receiving and at least one touchdown run and one touchdown catch since running back BRIAN WESTBROOK on September 23, 2007.

Foster surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season and the 11th time in his career.

He had a career-long 78-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, tying for the longest scoring-pass play in franchise history.

Foster's 234 yards from scrimmage are the most in a game by an AFC running back this season.

In his third year from Tennessee, this is Foster's third career Offensive Player of the Week Award. He most recently won the award in Week 4 of this season.

DEFENSE: CB BRANDON FLOWERS, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Flowers recorded three tackles, three passes defensed and tied a career-high with two interceptions, including a 58-yard interception-return touchdown in the Chiefs 28-0 win over the Raiders.

Helped Kansas City record its first shutout since defeating San Francisco 41-0 on October 1, 2006.

His two interceptions tied for an NFL-best in Week 7.

The Chiefs registered six interceptions in the game, tied for the second-most in franchise history (seven against San Diego on December, 8 1968).

Through Week 7, the Chiefs' defense is tied for third in the NFL with 11 interceptions.

In his fourth season from Virginia Tech, this is Flowers' first career Defensive Player of the Week Award. He is the first Chiefs cornerback to win Defensive Player of the Week since 1999 (CRIS DISHMAN, Week 12).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K JOSH SCOBEE, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Scobee connected on all four field goals (54, 54, 22, 51) in a 12-7 win over Baltimore on Monday Night Football.

His three field goals of 50+ yards tied an NFL record for the most in a game.

Scobee scored all 12 of the Jaguars' points.

Scobee has made all five 50+ yard field goal attempts this season.

He has 18 career field goals of 50+ yards, the most in franchise history.

In his eighth season from Louisiana Tech, this is Scobee's seventh career Special Teams Player of the Week Award. He previously won the award in 2010 (Week 4).
