Bills End 15-Game Losing Streak to Patriots

Orchard Park, N.Y.
The New England Patriots (2-1) have never lost a game when leading by 21 points or more with Tom Brady at quarterback. That changed Sunday when Rian Lindell booted a game-winning field goal as time expired, giving the Buffalo Bills (3-0) a 34-31 victory over their heavily favored AFC East rivals.
The win not only ends the Bills' 15-game losing streak to the Patriots, it marks the first time since 1950 that a team has won in back-to-back weeks after trailing by 18 or more.
"It was 21-0, but we went down and scored and it was 21-7," said Bills head coach Chan Gailey. "You keep playing. There's ups and downs in this game…If you keep playing, good things will happen to you. Our guys keep playing."
Brady, who added 387 yards and four touchdowns to his earth-shattering pace, threw four interceptions - all of which the Bills one way or another converted into points. His counterpart, Ryan Fitzpatrick, finished with 369 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.
"We turned the ball over four times," said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. "You don't win many games that way."
Down 21-7, Bryan Scott prevented a fourth Patriots' score by intercepting a pass at the Buffalo 10 yard-line with 1:05 remaining in the first half. The Bills responded with a field goal.
Leodis McKelvin accounted for Brady's second interception when he stepped in front of a pass intended for Chad Ochocinco. Fitzpatrick found a wide open Scott Chandler for a 3-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession, narrowing the lead to 21-17 early in the third quarter.
With the Patriots up 24-17, George Wilson made a leaping interception - once again deep in Buffalo territory - ending the would-be scoring threat. A 1-yard Fred Jackson touchdown run evened the score on the drive that followed for the Bills.
The fourth interception proved to be the most significant. Drayton Florence ended up with a ball tipped at the line by Marcell Dareus, returning it for a touchdown. The Bills in turn, took their first lead of the game, 31-24, with 10:22 remaining in the contest.
"To date, yeah it is right now," said Florence, asked if it was the biggest interception of his career. "This is my third time picking off Tom Brady, first time scoring."
Wes Welker, who caught a team-record 16 passes for 217 yards, added the second of his two-touchdown performance to even the score on the Patriots' final possession. Buffalo native Rob Gronkowski also had a big day for the Patriots, catching seven passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
The four-interception outing by Brady ties a career-worst and matches his season total from 2010.
"It's tough to overcome as many mistakes as we did," Brady said. "(Buffalo) made a lot of plays and they're a good football team."
