Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been banned two games by the NFL for stomping on Green Bay guard Evan Dietrich-Smith, when his foe was on the ground during the third quarter of the Lions' 27-15 loss Thanksgiving Day.

Suh, with his fifth violation of on-field rules in the last two seasons, will be out $164,000 in pay and will not be able to take part in practices or team activities during the period.

"NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks notified Ndamukong Suh today that he has been suspended without pay for the Lions' next two games for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving Day," the league said in a statement.

"Under the CBA, the suspension may be appealed within three business days. If appealed, an expedited hearing and decision would take place this week in advance of this weekend's games."

The Lions may also choose to tack on an additional fine for the incident.
