The Texans are in control of their own destiny with a chance to win the AFC South for the first time in franchise history and Houston is hoping they could get more help from Jake Delhomme, whom they brought in out of semi-retirement.

The injury-riddled Texans agreed to terms with Delhomme Tuesday, adding the 36-year-old signal-caller to their quarterback depth.

Delhomme worked out with the Texans Tuesday, along with another retired quarterback, Jeff Garcia.

Delhomme is expected to be the third-string quarterback behind rookie T.J. Yates and recently inked Kellen Clemens.

The Texans lead their division at 8-3, but are dangerously thin behind center following season-ending injuries to starter Matt Schaub and No. 2 quarterback, Matt Leinart.

Two games ahead of the Tennessee Titans in the division, Houston is hoping to make a playoff push with their third-string quarterback, and with the experienced Delhomme, who is expected to get the call behind center at some point.

Delhomme, who guided the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2003, is 56-40 in 96 regular-season NFL starts -- or 87 more than Clemens and Yates have combined.

His experience along with his intense demeanor in the huddle could catapult him ahead of Yates and Clemens, but the biggest concern for Delhomme is his tendency to commit turnovers.

In his final two years with the Panthers, Delhomme amassed 30 interceptions and six fumbles.

In 2010, Delhomme threw two TD for Cleveland but had seven picks in five appearances for the Browns.

In 10 NFL seasons, Delhomme has thrown for 20,764 yards with 125 TD and 101 interceptions.
