The Minnesota Vikings officially released veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb Thursday afternoon after falling in the team's depth chart.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier confirmed McNabb's release Thursday, calling the move 'the best decision for both parties.'

With the development, NFL teams can pick the veteran quarterback off waiver within the next 24 hours. If multiple teams seek to acquire McNabb, the one with the worst record will obtain his services.

A perennial Pro Bowler in his first 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, McNabb saw his career spiral downward following a lackluster performance with the Washington Redskins.

In an attempt to give them an experienced quarterback, the Vikings acquired McNabb for future draft picks in the offseason.

However, Minnesota's experiment went wrong as McNabb struggled orchestrating the Vikes offense.

In six starts, McNabb led the Vikes to only one victory and just covered 1,026 yards with 4 TD and 2 interceptions.

The Chicago Bears appear to be the frontrunner to acquire McNabb, trying to fill the void of injured starting quarterback Jay Cutler (thumb surgery).
