It was a successful preseason debut for Plaxico Burress.

The former New York Giant standout caught three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown for the New York Jets in a 27-7 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday night.

The game was his first since in his return from a 2 ½-year layoff. Burress, 34, last played Nov. 16, 2008 before accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a gun in a New York City night club and then spent about 20 months in prison for violating New York's stringent gun laws

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was 12-for-20 for 173 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He hit Santonio Holmes with a 16-yard pass just over three minutes in and Burress with a 26-yard score with 58 seconds left in the half.

Cincinnati, in search of a replacement for Carson Palmer who is retiring rather than returning to the Bengals, started rookie Andy Dalton. The former TCU standout was 8 of 19 for 86 yards but was picked off twice.
