The National Football League announced the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl will be streamed online and to mobile phones, catering those media services for the first time for US subscribers.

NFL senior vice president of media strategy and development Hans Schroeder announced the groundbreaking development, believing the online and mobile phone streaming of the Super Bowl will further expand the NFL's already vast media reach.

Media giant NBC, which drew an average of 200,000-300,000 viewers online Sunday nights, will also stream Wild Card Sunday, Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl on on NFL.com and NBCSports.com and through Verizon's NFL Mobile application. Complementing that stream will be a number of extra features to enrich the viewing experience including additional camera angles, in-game highlights, live statistics and other interactive elements

So far, there's no evidence the online and mobile phone streaming of NFL games affects the healthy TV ratings of traditional broadcasting, but the NFL and NBC are nevertheless open to conduct extensive research about it.

Super Bowl XLVI will be held on February 5, 2011 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
