Ron Baker and Fred Van Vleet made a three-pointer and two foul shots apiece in a 10-2 run late in the second half as Wichita State booked a spot in the Sweet 16 after eliminating No. 1 seed Gonzaga, 76-70, Saturday at EnergySolutions Arena.

The Bulldogs were leading by 63-62 when Baker started the run with two foul shots as the Shockers took a 64-63 advantage.

Baker followed it with a triple for a 67-63 lead before Kelly Olynyk answered with a jumper to make it 67-65.

However, Van Vleet buried a triple and two foul shots after Olynyk missed a layup for a 72-65 lead with 39 seconds remaining.

Van Vleet and Malcolm Armstead sank four foul shots the rest of the game to counter a foul shot by Kevin Pangos and David Stockton as the Shockers made it to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006.

Cleanthony Early and Baker scored 16 points each, Van Vleet added 13 and Carl Hall had 10 for the Shockers (28-8), who will face the winner of the La Salle-Ole Miss encounter.

Olynyk scored 26 points and Pangos had 19 for the Bulldogs (32-3), who were the first top seed to pack their bags.

The Bulldogs launched a 12-0 run midway in the second half to turn a 41-37 deficit into a 49-41 advantage with 11:53 left.

However, Tekele Cotton, Early and Baker hit three straight triples to bring the Shockers within 61-60.

The Shockers buried a season-high 14 triples on 50-percent shooting from beyond the arc compared to just eight treys by the Bulldogs.

Overall, the Shockers shot 25-for-50 from the field for 50 percent while Gonzaga struggled with a 21-for-59 marksmanship for 35.6 percent.
