Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel captured the 2012 Heisman Trophy Saturday night.

He edged out Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, who finished second and Kansas State's Collin Klein, who was third.

The first freshman to win the award, Manziel passed for 3,419 yards with 24 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

Klein threw for a thousand fewer yards and had 15 scoring strikes with one fewer pick by comparison.

Te'o was terrific for the unbeaten Irish, collecting 100 tackles and seven interceptions with a pair of sacks.

Manziel thanked his parents, teammates and coach along with God in his acceptance speech.
