Nets Sign Small Forward Josh Childress

Small forward Josh Childress has earned another shot at reviving his career after he reached a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
A source said Childress signed the deal worth the veteran's minimum after meeting with Nets general manager Billy King and coach Avery Johnson Tuesday.
The 6-8 Childress could play as backup small forward behind starter Gerald Wallace if he makes the team.
The Phoenix Suns used their amnesty clause option on Childress for salary cap relief. The clause allows teams to waive one player during the new labor deal and have 100 percent of his salary taken off the cap and the luxury tax.
The Suns, however, must pay the remaining three years and $21 million on Childress' contract.
Childress played four of his six years with the Atlanta Hawks where he averaged 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds before he moved to Greece in 2008 to play for the Olympiacos Piraeus.
After two seasons with Olympicacos, where he averaged 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, Childress signed with the Suns in 2010.
In his first season with Phoenix, Childress averaged 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds in 54 games. Last season, he averaged 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 34 games.
Earlier, the Nets also signed forward/center Andray Blatche to a non-guaranteed deal.
Blatche, who averaged 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 26 games last season with Washington, was amnestied by the Wizards in the summer after missing the last 40 games of the season with a calf injury.
In seven seasons, Blatche averaged 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in 409 games, including 176 starts. His best season was 2010-11, when he posted career-highs of 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.9 minutes per game.
