Boston, MA

Brad Marchand scored 15:40 into overtime to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Eastern Conference semifinal at TD Garden.

Marchand received a pass from Patrice Bergeron and got inside position on Mats Zuccarello before hitting the one-timer past Henrik Lundqvist for his first goal in this year's playoffs.

"We just knew that the situation didn't matter; as long as we stayed focused, we can come back," Marchand said. "We were down early there in the third period but found a way."

Tuukka Rask made 37 saves while Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug scored the other goals for the Bruins.

The Rangers got goals from Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan during regulation while

Lundqvist made 45 saves, including 15 in overtime, but his efforts went down the drain with the loss. He is now 3-11 all-time in overtime while the Rangers fell to 0-3 in extra time.

The Rangers' power play continued to struggle as they went 0-for-3 and fell to 2-for-31 in the playoffs.

"A loss is a loss at this point," Rangers captain Ryan Callahan said. "We felt like we were right there, obviously had a chance to win the game with one shot".

The Bruins grabbed a 1-0 lead when Chara scored on a slap shot 12:23 into the second period, snapping Lundqvist's shutout streak at 152:23.

However, the Rangers took a 2-1 lead on goals from McDonagh and Stepan separated by 15.3 seconds and 18-minute intermission.

McDonagh tied the game at 1-1 with 1.3 seconds left in the second period while Stepan scored 14 seconds into the third to give New York a 2-1 lead.
