Stacy Baker
With warmer weather on the horizon, I like to take an inventory of my makeup bag and trade out my winter hair care for spring products that prep me for the new season. Here's a hit list of my top 3 switch-ups:
Out: Leave-in daily conditioner
In: Lightweight daily conditioner
Keep: Deep-conditioning treatments
The harshness of winter weather demands a heavyweight leave-in conditioner.
When warmer temps roll around (and you're not hiding locks under a hat), you'll want a formula that adds softness and moisture -- without the potential for buildup. If you're already doing weekly deep-conditioning treatments, you can do them every other week instead. If it's not part of your routine, try one at the start of the season to rejuvenate damaged locks post-winter.
Out: Non-UV styling products
In: Hair care with sun protection
Keep: Hair accessories
Scarves and hats help protect your strands from UV rays in winter months, but with warmer weather you're outside more, showing off your spring style. Give locks a little protection from sunlight with hair products that contain UV inhibitors. For extra insurance, incorporate clips, hair ties and scarves into your warm-weather fashion to limit UV exposure.
Out: Static stopper
In: Frizz fighter
Keep: Multitasking shine products
Just when you've figured out how to handle cold-weather dryness and wind (read: static), the season ends and you're faced with a new issue: humidity. Translation? Frizz. The best bang for your buck are serums and/or sprays that control both static and frizz, leaving your hair shiny and healthy-looking.
