1970s Style, Take 2

We hope you’re ready to “Make Your Own Kind of Music,” in the sage words of the late Mama Cass, because 2011 is all about the sultry ’70s. From blue eye shadow to stick-straight hair and frosted lips, ’70s-inspired styles were spotted on the spring 2011 runways at Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley and Narciso Rodriguez, among others. Here, some quick tips on how to get the look:

Blue Eye Shadow

Channel that louche liberation of the flower-girl era by investing in the right blue shadow for your skin tone. On fair complexions, a green-blue pops, while medium skin tones favor navy or icy-silver hues. Dark skin tones contrast beautifully with bright turquoise shades. Always keep your blue concentrated from the lash line to the crease. If you brush it up above the crease, you risk looking like Mimi from “The Drew Carey Show” -- and no one wants that.

Straight Hair

Stick-straight hair is super-simple thanks to a wide variety of flat irons and straightening balms. Get yours Cher- sleek (think Sonny and Cher era) by air-drying before separating locks into tiny 1-inch sections and ironing them, bit by bit.

Frosted Lips

Frosted lips are modernized with a slick of gloss over an iridescent lipstick. Keep your hue in the medium-to-darker metallic color family for a decidedly 2011-via-1975 effect. People need not wonder where you hid your time machine.
