Former Cy Young winner Roger Clemens has refused to say whether his latest return to the pitching mound will lead to an eventual comeback to the Major Leagues.

" We're just going to go out and have fun with this and make it fun for the fans," said the 50-year-old Clemens, who will start for the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters Saturday against Bridgeport.

Sugar Land (Texas) is an independent franchise in the Atlantic League that is not affiliated with Major League Baseball

"If I get through Saturday, we'll see where we go from there," added Clemens, who last pitched in the Majors with the New York Yankees in 2007. He will have an open workout with the Skeeters Wednesday.

Clemens admitted that there's much work to be done before he achieves a Major League-ready form.

"I wouldn't consider myself anywhere close to major-league ready," said Clemens. "I'm nowhere near where I was five years ago or the amount of work I went into it."

Many are saying that Clemens' latest comeback is also aimed at changing perceptions about him before the December vote for the Baseball's Hall of Fame where his name is included in the ballot, together with Barry Bonds.

Despite an outstanding 23-year Major League career, Clemens' achievements were clouded by doubts after he was accused of using performance enhancing drugs.

Two months ago, he was acquitted of charges of lying to Congress under oath when he denied using performance-enhancing drugs during his career.

In his career, Clemens posted 354 wins with 3.12 earned run average and 4,672 strikeouts, the third-most all time, during stints with the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and the Houston Astros.

An 11-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards during his career, the most of any pitcher in MLB history.

When Roger Clemens pitches Saturday night for the Sugar Land Skeeters it will be the first time the 50-year-old has taken the mound in almost five years
