Left fielder Tyler Moore connected for a two-run single in the eighth inning as the Washington Nationals edged the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2, to take the opening game of their National League Division Series Sunday at Busch Stadium.

NL Cy Young front runner Gio Gonzalez surrendered two runs with five strikeouts over five innings while Cards starting hurler Adam Wainwright allowed six hits and one run into the sixth inning.

Nats catcher Kurt Suzuki opened the series with an RBI single in the second inning but Yadier Molina and Jon Jay drove in a run each to give the Cards a 2-1 edge.

St. Louis managed just three hits on the night, including a pair from David Freese. Ian Desmond rapped three hits for the Nationals.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Moore stepped up at the right time to play the hero's role for the Nationals, who will look to take a 2-0 series lead Monday at Busch Stadium.

Pinch hitter Tyler Moore blooped a two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning and the Washington Nationals won in their postseason debut, beating the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in 3-2
