Major League Baseball officials have visited the newspaper that linked Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and other players to performance-enhancing drugs use, hoping to obtain records that could help their investigation.

According to multiple media reports, investigators from MLB's Department of Investigations want to learn how the notebooks that the New Times reported belonged to Biogenesis anti-aging clinic founder Anthony Bosch were obtained

The investigators also want to know the names of other players in the notebooks who were not named in the New Times report and, most importantly, want to see whether the publication will hand over the records, according to SI.com.

Based on information from two unnamed sources, the New York Daily News reported that MLB investigators had already examined the notes and documents and were seeking to acquire them.

New Times editor Chuck Strouse has confirmed that MLB has asked for the records but added that the New Times has not responded to the request yet.

"We are deliberating," Strouse told SI.com.

The Bosch notebooks and other logs describe PED regimens for Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, Gio Gonzalez, Nelson Cruz and others from 2009 to 2012.

The Yankees slugger Rodriguez has admitted doping from 2001 to 2003 but has vehemently denied these latest allegations.

Investigators will try to link the dates in the notebooks to independent evidence such as receipts for plane trips and overnight packages.
