Cesar Tordesillas
Chicago, IL
The Chicago Cubs have signed starting pitcher Edwin Jackson to a four-year, $52 million deal.
Jackson, who went 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts with Washington last season, did not receive a qualifying offer from the Nationals this winter, allowing the Cubs to acquire the hurler without giving draft-pick compensation.
Jackson has a career slate of 70-71 with a 4.40 ERA, 168 strikeouts and 58 walks.
The Cubs also inked right-handed pitcher Carlos Villanueva on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old Villanueva went 7-7 with a 4.16 ERA in 38 appearances (16 starts) with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012.
