Manila, Philippines

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has recently signed into law legislation designed to compensate victims of the country's former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos.

$22 million has been set aside to compensate victims of abuses during Marcos regime.

The funds were said to have been recovered from a secrete Swiss account.

The new law is a way of correcting the wrongs of the past.

It was during Marcos' rule that martial law was introduced and it was during that time that thousands were tortured, detained and disappeared.

The law was signed 27 years after Marcos was ousted through a "People Power" revolution.

After the peaceful revolution, the president's mother, Corazon Aquino was the president.

The new law was signed during the revolution celebration.
