A security alert was sounded in Great Britain after seven Cameroon athletes disappeared, possibly in search of a better livelihood. Five pugilists, a swimmer and a soccer player, reportedly disappeared after their events and the London Olympic Games Organizing Committee (LOGOC) indicated the suspected have left for some other European country in search for a better life.

.The head of the Cameroon Mission in Britain, David Ojong, has sent a letter to his country's external affairs ministry stating that, "What began as rumor has finally turned out to be true. Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village."

Disclosing the names, Ojong said a reserve goalkeeper of the women's soccer team, Drusille Ngako, following which swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue did the vanishing act. Five boxers --- Blaise Yepmou Mendouo, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli and Serge Ambomo --- after the completion of their bouts vanished from the Games Village on Sunday.

.Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it had not heard from the LOGOC on the issue of the missing athletes. IOC spokesperson, Mark Adams, feigned ignorance at a press conference on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Cameroonian sportspersons have done the vanishing act.

Several players from the impoverished African country have disappeared during the Commonwealth Games and world championships during the past decade.

London Olympic officials said that Cameroon officials were seeking help in locating 7 missing athletes, but stressed that they had not breached the terms of their visas and were not violating any immigration laws
