Home for the Holidays Takes on a Whole New Meaning This Year

December 2001 (Newstream) --

This holiday season, travel experts estimate that 87 percent of travelers will be hitting the highways. Walter Ocner reports.

With gas prices at their lowest level in months, the most preferred mode of holiday transportation this year is by car. However, car travel means less space for suitcases, packages and people not to mention a longer time to keep the kids occupied. Nationally Recognized Travel Expert Laura Powell offers tips to make the trip more enjoyable.

(Laura Powell) During the holidays, finding space in your car for suitcases, gifts and family members can present quite a challenge. To save space, pack a couple of large suitcases instead of one for each person. As far as wardrobe is concerned, mix and match, and limit each person to two or three pairs of shoes. You can also save a lot of space by bringing multi-purpose products like a shampoo and conditioner in one.

Olay Daily Facials remove make-up, cleanse, conditions and exfoliates in one easy step and come in a convenient travel pack. Skin lotion with SPF is another good idea. One phrase you don't want to hear on the family road trip is "are we there yet."

To keep the kids happy and occupied allow each one to bring along their favorite toy along with video games, books on tape and portable CD players. And don't forget to bring plenty of snacks and bottled water.

Powell says road trips can be fun and enjoyable if you plan ahead.
