Beating The Holiday Blues
Tips To Handle Stress During The Holiday Seasons
Many Find Dealing With Stress Much Tougher This Year
The holidays are here - and people are taking the time to celebrate. According to a recent survey by CIGNA
HealthCare, nearly half of Americans say they expect this holiday season to be more stressful than the last.
But experts say there are things you can do to make it easier this season.
The decorations are up - and people are planning special parties and gatherings. But the holidays are different
this season. CIGNA Behavioral Health therapist Dr. Jodi Aronson says experiencing the blues is more common than many
people realize.
It's understandable people may feel a little down - especially this holiday. But things can be different.
I encourage folks to get together with friends, chat with co-workers and reconnect with family. By managing
their expectations, most people can shake the holiday blues pretty quickly.
Experts say to be realistic in your expectations for the holidays and don't overlook
workplace support services, from employee assistance programs, to nurses you can consult by phone 24/7, to
discounts on medical services like therapeutic massage. All of which can make a real difference - during these
stressful times. I'm Roberta Facinelli.
Another tip - do things for others. Experts say sharing time or volunteering is an excellent way to get into the
holiday spirit.
